Grampian Kart Club welcome you to attend our 60th Anniversary Open Day on the 21st August. From 10am to 4pm we will be hiring out our popular 250cc hire karts and running lets go karting sessions for kids from 6 years+.
From the early conception of Banff & Moray Kart Club in the early 60s to the club we know today – Grampian Kart Club remains a member owned entity. Run by a committee of volunteers to promote owner driver kart racing.
Over the years the club has seen a number of drivers cut their teeth on our grounds to forge a career in motorsport. Well known names such as Allan McNish, Davild Coulthard, Paul di Resta and Susie Wolff have all competed at the Boyndie Drome facility in one of its many iterations. However for most of our competitors, it’s an affordable way to go wheel-to-wheel circuit racing with seriously impressive performance.
With nearly 200 members, GKC has over the years reinvested funds into the facility to make it one of the best motorsport facilities in the UK. The club has come along way from the old days of a double decker bus for race control and outdoor toilets – with purpose built outbuildings forming race control, clubhouse, medical hut and workshop. As well as electric plug-in points for competitors to get access to electricity in the paddock.
Our hire karts will be available throughout the day at the cost of £15 per 10mins and suitable for adults and children (height dependant). All equipment will be provided. Lets go karting sessions are aimed at children aged between 6-12years old. These sessions include familiarisation with the kart within the pit area, once they demonstrate control of the kart they will be led around the circuit by a lead kart for approx 10mins. Lets go karting costs £10.
A range of static displays of karts from various eras will be on display along with current racing kit including demonstration runs. We will also have some sprint cars on display and performing demonstration runs. Whether you are a member or not we’d encourage anyone with historic karts to take them along and display them to celebrate 60 years at Boyndie Drome.
Local radio station Deveron FM will be broadcasting live from the event.
Our Cafe will be open and serving refreshments and drinks.
